1ST EVER PLUS-SIZE SHOW @ MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK!

Credit: Online.wsj.com
The 1st ever plus-size fashion show in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week got off without a hitch.  As mentioned in my previous post, the 1st ever Plus-Size NY Fashion Week show took place earlier this evening at Lincoln Center.

The show was given by OneStopPlus.com.  Company President Stephanie Sobel (who is not plus-size) says it was "customer-driven incentive" that inspired the show.

I can not express how excited I am about this step forward for the fashion industry and media in general!!  Women come in all shapes and sizes and ALL need to be celebrated.  Some celebrities in attendance were Nikki Blonsky, Gabourey Sidibe, Caroline Manzo (RHWNJ) & plus-size super models Emme & Toccara

Here are some pictures and footage from the event:

CURVES IN ACTION: 1ST EVER PLUS SIZE SHOW IN NY FASHION WEEK

Size 12 & 14 Models walk down the runway in Mark Fast fashion show
Super Model Lizzie Miller in Glamour Magazine
Super Model Toccara Jones

We are sexy, we are driven, we are fabulous and finally...we have representation in New York Fashion Week!!!

Whether admitted or not, we've all run into that stunningly beautiful plus-size woman (in the store, on the train, at the club, etc.) who make us think to ourselves, "Wow she should/could be a model!"  According to Daily Mail, dozens of outfits from OneStopPlus.com will grace the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runways Wednesday at Lincoln Center NY.  The store carries US sizes 12W-44W.  This will be the first time a plus-size runway has ever been included in NYFW.  With the average size of American women said to be size 14 US (NY Times Article March 1, 2009), the inclusion of plus-size women in New York Fashion Week is well past due and highly welcomed!

"This show is a collaborative effort to provide the extraordinary community of plus-size American women with the uncompromising style that they have always deserved but never received. It's about inclusion and fashion democracy: fashion risk-taking and empowerment. No more seeing what you can't have; this is a fashion party that invites and inspires everyone."-Zahir Babvani, VP of Design of OneStopPlus.com. (Marketwatch.com)

Super models walking the runways in next week's shows include Lizzie Miller and Toccara Jones.  Let's hope this show is a step in the new direction of celebrating beauty and style for what it is and removing size from the equation.<
